Biography:

Susan Berkman is an attorney at the Meier Law Firm with a focus on philanthropic giving. Susan helps assist our clients who are interested in making major gifts or bequests to the charities of their choice and works as a liaison between them. Susan also works closely with universities and non-profit organizations who rely on the Meier Law Firm to help educate their alumni, donors, and members on estate planning and charitable giving topics.

Prior to joining the Meier Law Firm, Susan spent twenty-five years raising money as a planned giving officer for various nonprofit organizations. She recently retired from California State University, Long Beach where she and her team raised $170 million in planned gifts during her fifteen-year tenure.

While working in planned giving, Susan maintained a solo practice law firm where she helped start-up nonprofits to gain tax-exempt status and structure for fundraising. She also provided estate planning services to private clients.

Susan graduated cum laude from Western State University where she participated in law review and was named an outstanding student in her graduating class. She and her family live in Dana Point where they enjoy the beach and other outdoor activities.
